Module #8 Blog Video Reveiw
1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I choose The Greek Awakening video for two reasons the first being that I was interesting in watching something that discussed the history of art in greek culture the second being that this was one of the shortest videos fitting my interest.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the The Greek Awakening video I learned that the influential movements that came from Greek culture were largely due to the awakening movement that happened in Greece society which revolutionized philosophy.
In the BBC film the key concepts I grasped were that the visual world which live in told which has and still continues evolve was birthed by pre-historic art culture and is exemplified in our cultures approach to how we create art of the human body which is remotely tied our connection to prior civilizations ideals of art.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The Greek Awakening video is notably related to the text through there exploration of the history of classical Greek culture which involved Greek philosophy, architecture, and sculpture which all have influenced western civilizations.
In How Art Made The World the video connects to the beginning of Chapter 14 of the text which also discusses prehistoric art and its influences on today society and uses example like exaggeration and realism in how the human body is portrayed in art.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I thought the BBC video How Art Made The World was really enticing and and added a much needed uniqueness to some of the other video essays we've seen and the discussion of prehistoric art is always intriguing to think about. This adds some depth to aspects of art history explored in the text b/c we actually seen interviews and discussions with people with historians and intellectuals who study the expect history and investigate the connections of today's art and artist to that of prehistoric peoples.
The Greek Awakening film I found it fascinating to learn more about how the History of Greece and the evolution in human philosophy that came from them and its impact on art and on society. The video was really critical in providing me with some much needed context for the discussion of Greek cultures influence on art as it detailed the awakening movement that lead to new and improved artistic and philosophical innovation in their society.
