Reflection Blog

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met? Coming into the course I hoped to study artistic concepts, the history of various movements and to learn how art has and continues to evolve. I believed that I was able to see and learn all these things and I think that having this experience has definitely made me a better artist and a better human being.   2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting? Honestly I wouldn't define it much differently as I still see it simply as personal expression which can be reflected in many forms and mediums and I think that was my original point as well. 3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so? I initially put Christopher Nolan as my favorite artist as I didn't quite understan...

Art Curator Exhibit Response

To develop my expressionist focused exhibit Deep in the Abyss  I begun by searching some popular painting themes and compared them with art subjects I found interesting. I eventually concluded that Expressionism was the perfect motif as it was just the abstract style and idea I was looking for. Following the completion of the projects early steps I begin to think about a title which could relate with the art pieces I had in mind without overtly describing my ambitions and I figured Deep in the Abyss was a good cliche title to connect with the metaphysical ideals in the exhibits work. To find the artwork I chose I used Art Project powered by Google which was really helpful in finding pieces that I liked and that fit my projects theme. I wanted to go with a mix up of images that were simple and coherent to other pieces which were abstract and held duplicitous meanings. The Art Project provided me with several great pieces and most of them contained all the artworks details which were...

Mask Making

Image
In this image we see a sculpted mask with a orange-ish brown hue and has a closed mouth and eyes and a cross on the middle of its forehead. The mask uses Unity as the color and aesthetic of the piece is harmonious. Contrast is used in this image between light and dark shadows among the brown color tone In this image there is oval shaped face mask that has black color tone with some integrated brown throughout with what seems to be tattoos possibly underneath its eyes and traveling from its nose to its forehead. The sculpture employees Balance as it is perfectly symmetrically. Texture is a key element as it looks completely consist on the mask. Module #9- Video Review

The first video I chose is  Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance because he is a very popular artist and titled led me to believe it would relate to the reading we did of chapters 16 and 17. The second video  I selected is  Albrecht Dürer: Image of a Master and this video explored the art of someone I hadn't really heard of so I knew I'd be fully engaged. From the Da Vinci video I learned that Da Vinci was an intelligent creative individual from a very early in life who had an understanding of many things in life all of which influenced his work as an artist.  In the Image of a Master  video I learned of another great artist who was huge influence on the Renaissance, who also showed signs of greatness at a very young age and was influenced by his mother and father and has legacy although less popular quite similar to Leonardo Da Vinci's. Both videos relate to the text exclusively as both Da Vinci and Durer were revolutionary artist who were hug...

Art Making/Material Exploration: Exploring Line

Image
1. It was fun looking at my hands in a nuanced way because I had to draw them but it was difficult to say the least. 2.  I selected a pencil primarily because it was readily available but also because I felt it could articulate what I needed it to. 3. It was really frustrating see my subject the right hand and visualizing and my left hand being completely incapable of articulating that vision. 4. Definitely not my sketching skills are really poor with both hands so I wouldn't consider successful. 5. I would if I ever begun prating using the hand, I think it'd be fun.

Module #8 Blog Video Reveiw

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above. I choose  The Greek Awakening video for two reasons the first being that I was interesting in watching something that discussed the history of art in greek culture the second being that this was one of the shortest videos fitting my interest. 2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. In the  The Greek Awakening video  I learned that the influential movements that came from Greek culture were largely due to the awakening movement that happened in Greece society which revolutionized  philosophy. In the BBC film the key concepts I grasped were that the visual world which live in told which has and still continues evolve was birthed by pre-historic art culture and is exemplified in our cultures approach to how we create art of the human body which is remotely tied our connection to prior civilizations ideals of art. 3. How do the videos relate to the readi...

Module #7 Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. In The Science of Design film some of the key concepts that I grasped were influence of scientific factors on the construction of buildings i.e, wind, precipitation, gravity, etc. also the video discussed the evolution of a very significant substance used in construction, concrete. As for the  Architecture as Art  video some significant elements I discovered was Frank Gehry was a dynamic architecture from Canada who's style was varied and his work was very connected to him emotionally and this had a huge impact on his creations. 2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? Chapter 13 of the textbook discusses several different methods of construction and each play a role in architecture and I think one connection we see in  The Science of Design  film is the discussion of concrete both mediums make reference to concrete and its ever growing uses in architecture.  Architecture as Ar...

Module Six- Video Review

In the Glass and Ceramics video I learned that one of the ways glass is made through siliceous sand. The sand is composed of sillicon dioxide which forms crystals when heated. To create the glass flux elements are added to prevent the sand from becoming fluid. Along with the several unique ways that glass can be made I learned in this video that glass and ceramics are very significant materials used in are society that have a multiplicity of puproses that help each of us in our daily lives. Some of the most significant info I gathered from Through the Eyes of the Sculptor  was about the unique and distinctive creative qualities that different materials can hold and there impact on crafting sculptures which was very interesting gathering this information from people who work in this art field.  The Glass and Ceramics video is very much relative to the reading as we see in chapter 11 the different methods of sculpture and uses of materials as well as its connection to ar...

Reviewing Peer Responses:

1. https://steveepps.blogspot.com/     https://stefoncaffee.blogspot.com/ 2. For the first person project I observed I thought that the images meet most of the requirements but      could've looked better had they been taken horizontally instead of vertically. For the second  again      I found the photos to have the principles there but there were commonly of other images or works      which held the artistic principles.  3. None of the photos I looked a from the principles of elements really resemble anything that I had taken, there were some similarities like take certain shots outside to meet a specific requirement but nothing else. The main reason for the stark difference between there work and mind is probably just that everybody thinks about life and art differently so where I found something that held a certain artistic value others may not have. 4. Yes for the second blog that I took a look at there w...

1. I thought creating the logo was a fun and creative process that allowed me to channel some of the new materials I learned into something that can be beneficially to me professionally and artistically. 2. The process for developing my logo was very intricate at the start I went through of phase uncertainty about the artistic approach I should take and what things I thought might define me. Then after looking at the extensive amount of material you gave us to prep for creating a logo I narrowed down some solid options and concluded that using my last name and the professional field I want to enter along with a complementary image would be great. 3. I discovered your brand doesn't have to be an immediate reflection of who you are currently but maybe who you want to become. 4. I learned that the images and words are very powerful tools that we rely on heavily in our society and that the often used in graphic design to create a persona or brand for a specific thing.

Art Gallery Visit Responses: In the Art Gallery there was a section to the far back on the first floor specifically for various works of pieces titled Shark Girl: Never Quite There by Casey Millard. The selections of work were all unique and artistic and their own right but I found the subject of a Shark girl to be highly disturbing. A sharks head placed on a child's body is peculiar enough but for him to use this as the focal point of so many pieces is a incredible strange. Another piece I thought was impressionable was Vincent Van Gogh, La Maison de la Crau (The Old Mill). The piece is an oil canvas painting which was published in 1888 and I as soon as I glanced at the piece it had my attention. The painting was instantly recognizable as a work of Van Gogh and I really think it had tone that quickly aroused viewers attention. Richard Anuszkiewicz's Convex, Concave 1 Dimensional is a work that was completely in 1967. The cube was created with  Lacquered...

I'd like first acknowledge that my color wheel is obviously flawed and not completed in the way it is instructed to be. I had a busy week, mixed with some procrastination and wasn't able to use any actually paints so it was instead done digitally. 1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel. I think that they were both significant task that reinforced some artistic principles and theories through the experience of creating works that validated information we've been learning throughout the semester. 2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why? The Color would be my preferred creation here it took a little extra time because it was done on the computer but it was a great learning experience nonetheless. 3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies? The most important discovery was definitely learning that red yellow and blue weren't the primary colors but cyan, magenta and yellow wer...

Photos Reflection Journal

dgriffin2260's library on Photobucket The process for completing this project was rather tedious and somewhat confusing at times the idea of a project where you have to create photos using the composition and principles of design did bring me some joy though. To begin the project I made diagram of each of the elements and principles respectively and jotted down some shot possibilities under each that could \work for them then I chose a few different locations where I could find each of the shots. For the balance shot I drifted from my car towards Hotel Henry in search of framing something symmetrically and I was honestly quite surprised as inched closer towards the building and stepped into the intersection to see how the unique the architecture of the building made capturing it difficult. For my shape shot, I had seen some photos online of people shooting through benches so as I traveled towards the hotel garden I eased up close to the benches with my camera and knelt level wi...
1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting. Color is a visual element made evident by the refraction of light which is also used in various different ways to evoke emotion. The emotional effects of color can be quite different among different cultures, in America warmer colors like red are normal used to co-notate love and romance or others time anger and vengeance.  2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why? Color has many philosophical and theoretical principles used to define and inform our understanding of it. A trick a find interesting from theories surrounding color is an optical effect called afterimage. I think that this intriguing because the image stuck in our head from the combination of contrast of saturated colors is an optical illusion that is significant in other art forms. 3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color...

1. The process of setting up a blog for a new gmail account was fast, simple and very clear cut. 2. In this course I hope to learn about visual artistry and how to look at various art forms critically. 3. I feel that taking an online course is a very unique and autonomous experience and I hope that I have the discipline to handle it properly. 4. Three of the things from growth mindset videos I believe most apply to is one, implementing growth mindset ideals when faced with a setback or failure, two learning to adapt to the college environment as a freshman and three understanding that life involves sacrifices so you have to chose which areas your willing to make them in and how to compensate for them.
